Wonderful

The book's promotional blurb says to "take a glimpse" at the work of Sottsass but this is so much more than a glimpse. This is seemingly the entire history of Sottsass in pictures and illustrations including photographs, sketches, architectural renderings, furniture designs, objects, and design. Often with several images on a page it's Sottsass overload. Every period of his career is covered with nothing left behind. There are full color illustrations throughout in a solid hardcover design. There are tabs dividing each major section to make it easy to jump to your favorite Sottsass period. Highly recommended.

This is a very unfriendly and poorly designed book. If you had the notion of getting cozy and browsing the book, you can throw that idea out the window. There is an addtional flap to the book that is like a giant hang nail and prevents any real intimacy with the publication. That aside, the content is overly designed and fragmented, a real insult to the continuty of Sottsass's life's work. Imagine you were watching one of your favorite shows or movies of all time and every ten seconds a commerical interrupted your viewing, that's essentially how this book is laid out. This book is a real disappointment and I'm not sure why I haven't returned it.

A stunning compilation of the work by one of the most original and prolific designers of the 20th century. The monograph is beautifully composed and crafted by Phaidon. A must-own for design aficionados!
