Great Book

I bought this after a friend had mentioned ESOP as a way to sell my company. I started researching ESOP on the web and then bought this book of Amazon. I have some general limited knowledge of taxes but leave most of that to my accountant. Unfortunately even accountants don't know all the tax laws and how to benefit from all the tax programs our government has so "simply"put out for us. the main jest of the ESOP code was to give employees some ownership benifits for One of my partners has been wanting to sell out for quite some time. He was an investor with me 25 years ago, never involved with the business, and our stock value has grown about 8 to 9 times in value. I am actively involved in the day to day and was also thinking of how to satisfy his immediate needs for selling and also who would take over the company in the next 10 to 15 years when I retire. How would I get my money out of the company. Like so many business owners, most of my personal investment funds went right back into my business. Our company puts off a lot of profits but because it is a Subchapter S we are taxed about 40% between fed and state. Certain years we have had distributions beyond our taxes but seldom because of reinvesting into the companies growth. My partner is about 18 years older than I am and he is retired now so I certainly understand his reasons for wanting to cash out. The book not only explains the ESOP but also goes into the other forms of exiting such as selling to an outsider, selling to a main employee or keeping it till you die. It explains the tax consequences of each of these exits. Now I can vision how my partner can sell, while letting me continue owning the company till I am ready to retire. The best thing is the employees ESOP (employees pay nothing yet get shares each year they work) is buying his shares giving them an ownership stake in the company. It also enable me to give extra stock shares to my key employees to keep their interest in staying till I retire. When any employee leaves the company, the company buys back their stock at the current value. When I am ready to sell in 10 to 15 years, the employees ESOP will also buy my stock, hopefully at a higher value than today. At that point it will be 100% employee owned. This is just what I envision for my company. The ESOP also allows you to sell to your kids, work till you die, etc but with a little planning to keep tax expenses lower and reward the employees with ownership. I only wish I had found this book about 10 years ago. With the knowledge I have now not only is an ESOP a great exit strategy but also a great tool for giving your employees an ownership stake and possibly raising more capital for expansion and growth. You should read the book then go back and start breaking down the numbers and substituting the numbers from your company to see if this is an exit strategy for you.

If you are looking for the one book to buy on ESOP's, this is it. Finnell does an outstanding job of breaking down complex concepts into understandable pieces. Like many authors on this topic, Finnell knows his stuff, but he also conveys his wealth of real world experience with a gift for making it enjoyable, interesting and tangible.

Great NYC Memoir!

I didn't expect to like Ghetto Brother quite as much as I did. But Benjy Melendez's memoir is a captivating read that is really a coming of age story that takes place during the height of the South Bronx gang wars in the '60s and early '70s. Its amazing what Melendez went through and that, despite leading a street gang and and his internal identity issues, he was still able to bring about positive change in the end. The story vividly captures the history and transformation of New York City during that time while highlighting the humanity and transformation of a true leader. Its really great read!!

A story everyone should read!

This is an incredibly timely story given the changes that continue to evolve in the Bronx. Since I read this memoir I have been hearing more and more about the Bronx as the next 'place to be.' And I feel as if I have an inside glimpse into the history of the South Bronx and the person who helped shape it into what it is today. It's a story about the South Bronx in a very transformative time in its history and that of NYC. But it's also a story about leadership and family and choices and ethics. I was amazed by Benjy's personal story; how he became a leader at such a young age and how big a life Benjy lived. I was riveted by this kid who was the leader of a gang but whose father was such a steady source of what's 'right' and 'wrong' and how his father's positive influence and stability in his life eventually impacted Benjy's actions. It's a powerful story that will leave you wanting to know more about the history of where you live and wanting to hang out with Benjy to hear more!

A book you'll keep talking about

After reading Ghetto Brother, I left my copy lying around my apt, and so many people have come to ask about it – because between the music and the history, everyone can’t get over the real story of the Bronx and this guy’s personal journey. I just keep telling them: please read it so I can talk to you more about this story.... Living in New York since college, I was always aware of how the city constantly changes and evolves and how the playing field is never even. But for me as a Jewish NY’er this is another side that’s never been on my radar. Because this story is first hand it really gets you in the heart. Abruptly an innocent childhood becomes a post-war gang. This was the sentence I will always remember: “It was a hopeless situation but I never lost hope”. So this is one of those books you not only read for yourself, but you just keep telling everyone else to so you have someone to talk about it with.

It is a very good all in one financial book

As such, it does not delve deeply into each individual subject as well as an entire volume on each subject would, but it provides all the necessary information for 99% of the population to carry on their daily lives and live financially healthy. It is easy to read and understand, and if you're looking to learn about personal finance you will be hard pressed to find a better one volume piece.

Excellent entertainment for the Scooby lovers!

My six year old is one of Scooby's biggest fans. She received this book as a birthday gift and this book has become one of her favorite bedtime stories. This book is also excellent for those beginning readers. There are a lot of words but almost every page has a picture as well.

Scooby and the gang are in Hollywood to watch the filming of a movie, THE SANDS OF CAIRO, live on set courtesy of Daphne's uncle. Shaggy and Scooby soon discover the abundance of food, while the rest of the gang becomes suspicious of strange going-ons (pillars collapsing, tents blowing down, fake coconuts falling) that are apparently the result of a mummy's curse that has fallen on the movie set. The book is filled with great illustrations and the story is fun to read. I especially enjoyed this book in the series because it takes place in Hollywood.

I love Scooby-Doo when I was young, and I still do. I was Scooby-Doo crazy back then. I read a lot about Scooby and the gang. But The Mummy's Curse is one of my favorites.

The story is of course, a mystery book. It takes place in Hollywood in a movie studio. It about a mummy who scaring off the cast of an Egyptian movie set. The direct or of the movie invited Mystery, Inc. When they got there, the director told them what was happening and ask for their help. They agreed to help him. Now they must found the mummy and find out who started it.

If you love Scooby-Doo, get this book. It good for little kids because it is easy to read. So parents, you should get this book for your child.

Do not waste you money to buy this book

Contrary to what the title suggest, this is not a "handbook". The book is composed from the loose articles written by approximately 30 authors. Every article written in different convention, different language, different approach.
The book contains very limited amount of practical, "handbook like" information, charts, formulas, suggestions, etc. Some chapters are very superficial, the chapter 29, to name only one, "Torque Control of Assembly" completly misses the point. This is neither handbook nor academic textbook.I am dissapointed. I woudn't recomment this book to anybody.

A detailed and authoritative source on bolted joints

The reviewed volume focusing on non-gasketed bolted joints offers expanded coverage on the design and behavior of bolted joints and includes new chapters such as those on different types of bolts, production techniques, and quality issues. The editors were successful in making the handbook "useful rather than scholarly" as the chapters are written in a straightforward manner that focuses on "how-to-do-it or what-to-do information" and on the state of the art. For the most part, theory is discussed only when necessary leaving it mostly for the reader to follow up using the extensive references to scholarly sources and national standards at the end of each chapter. The handbook's logical organization and thorough index enhances its usefulness.
Those new to the subject or seeking theory would probably get more from An Introduction to the Design and Behavior of Bolted Joints but those seeking more detailed information or needing a thorough reference would be better served with the Handbook of Bolts and Bolted Joints.
